ISSF World Class Event Needs You!!

The ISSF World Shotgun Cup comes to Dorset in just over three months' time and organisers are stepping up the search for local volunteers to play a major part in the success of this prestigious event.

The event is being staged at the Southern Counties Shooting Ground near Dorchester between 11th and 20th May. With over 400 competitors and an influx of support teams and spectators, there will be an early boost to the local tourist industry. Hotels are already taking bookings, with many visitors combining the event with a visit to the World Heritage coast.

As you'd expect with an event of this size, a major support team is needed to make sure that everything runs smoothly, and organisers want to hear from you if you would like to get involved and sample the thrill of seeing a World Class sporting event 'up close and personal'.

So if you'd like the opportunity to help out with a variety of jobs including Event Marshalls, Drivers, Meet and Greet, Information Point Assistants, Catering Assistants, contact Event Manager Stephen Minto from Organisers Sportworks on 0114 3603606

Tom Wenham, Event Director, from Sportworks says it'll be a hugely rewarding experience for anyone who volunteers:

'Opportunities like this don't come around very often, so I am absolutely certain that local people will want to get involved. This is far more than just a sporting event. It's an opportunity to showcase the area to the rest of the world, and I know that everyone involved will want to prove just how welcoming Dorset is to sports fans and tourists alike.'
'This is an absolutely fantastic coup for the area. It's an enormously high profile event, particularly with 2012 around the corner. It should really help to put British shooting on the map, not least because it's a sport where we have some genuine medal contenders. Shooting is a sport that lends itself very well for spectators to come down because it's very visual. We will be bringing in a lot of infrastructure. There'll be a lot of accommodation for the administrative staff and there will also be seating installed for spectators. We're very committed to using local suppliers where possible, and it'll boost the local economy considerably.'

This event has been chosen by the ISSF General Assembly as one of four Shotgun World Cup events in 2010. The event will have the three Olympic Shotgun Disciplines of Skeet, Trap and Double Trap, and will mirror the Olympic shot gun programme, with Skeet and Trap competition for men and women, and Double Trap for the men.

This will be the first time the UK has ever held an ISSF Shotgun World Cup event - ranked only behind the World Championships and Olympic Games in importance.

The ISSF Shotgun World Cup event takes place at the Southern Counties Shooting Ground near Dorchester between May 11th - 20th 2010.

UK Sport's World Class Events Programme distributes approximately £3.3 million of Lottery funding each year to support the bidding and staging costs of major events on home soil, as well as providing specialist support to organisers.
